Occupy movement changing how police operate ↘

heres what happened last night in oakland

right about 3:00 was the first time they stampeded the crowd. they fired tear gas and then entire line of them came sprinting full speed, knocking people (including me) to the ground as they passed. the second stampede is at about 4:45.

only six people ended up actually getting arrested.

After encountering several arrests at Frank Ogawa Plaza during the past few weeks, Occupy Oakland has turned the heat up a notch by organizing a “March Against Repression” tomorrow night (Saturday, Jan 7) dubbed, “Fuck OPD.” The organizers are demanding the release of their fellow activists who are currently in Santa Rita Jail, including Marcel Johnson (Khali), a homeless man who might be facing the three-strike law and was allegedly held in solitary confinement without his psychiatric medications for ten days.

The City of Oakland is a war zone. The politicians, chamber of commerce, large scale property owners and Oakland Police Department daily work together to make our lives a living hell. Between the inflated rents, unemployment and consistent indiscriminate police violence there is not a day where the social forces that surround us do not attack the very foundations of our lives.

Man shot, killed near Occupy Oakland encampment ↘

OAKLAND, Calif. —

A man was shot and killed in downtown Oakland near the Occupy encampment in front of City Hall Thursday afternoon.

Emergency responders tried to resucitate the victim, who was described as a black male, as he was being lifted into an ambulance.

The victim died shortly after, authorities said.

Occupy Oakland protesters told the media that the shooting had nothing to do with the encampment and didn’t involve any activists. Protesters surrounded the scene of the shooting and made  a human chain to keep photographers from filming the victim.

One protester told KTVU that the victim may have sought sought shelter in Frank Ogawa Plaza because of the high concentration of people, but was found by the suspect or suspects.
